About Comfort Care™ Foods

History

Comfort Care™ Foods is a recent extension of KHI Foods, a privately held business with a 15 year history of success. Owner Millard Long has 27 years experience in food processing and packaging with well-known brands such as Sara Lee, Perdue, John Morrell, Mentos, Air Heads, Freschetta, Red Baron and more.

KHI Foods was founded in 1995 as Katelyn’s Honey when Millard received bee hives for his birthday from his daughter, Katelyn. Katelyn’s Honey quickly became the largest supplier of local honey to retailers, health food stores and farmers markets in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area.

A major business evolution occurred in 2002, when KHI Foods began processing and bottling salsa. The prior year, the business had lost most of its bees to a drought. The bees were replaced, but in 2002, the area had a lot of rainfall and the bees did not forage enough to produce a significant honey crop.

However, area farmers had a bumper crop of tomatoes. With a glut of tomatoes on the market, farmers were bemoaning the low prices at which they were forced to sell. Millard offered to make surplus tomatoes into salsa, a value-added product that could be priced to generate profits for the farmers.

From salsa, the KHI product line has evolved further. KHI Foods current processes marinara sauces, barbecue sauces, Asian Sauces, steak and grilling sauces, jambalaya and gumbo sauces, plus apple butter and jams. In 2008, KHI Foods also began making soups. Our product line is founded on all natural ingredients, and our products are shelf stable.
