Our Mission
Our immediate mission at Comfort Care™ Foods is to support the nutritional needs of cancer patients before, during and after cancer treatment. It is important for the body to have the nutrients it needs to enhance the outcome of cancer treatment. Side effects of treatment can impact the appetite and sense of taste; cancer patients often do not feel like eating. Failing to get the necessary nutrition can affect the chances of successful treatment.
Comfort Care™ Foods have been developed under the direction of Helene Gruber, RD, LD. We also have the benefit of nutritional counsel from oncologist, Dr. John Sacco, a fellow at University of Arizona on integrative oncology. Along with Helene, John and other medical professionals, our goal is to help cancer patients get the nutrition they need to enhance their success with treatment.
Social Consciousness
In addition to our direct mission to support cancer patients and their families, Comfort Care™ Foods is committed to provide benefits to our suppliers, the community in which we work, our customers and our users. We believe that our success can be complete only when we have helped those we work with be successful as well. Some highlights of these efforts follow.
- Local Sourcing: Comfort Care™ soups and apple butter are made from ingredients that are grown or produced close to our processing facility. We contract with area farmers to produce the vegetables and fruit contained in these products. The meat in our Beef Barley and Savory Chicken soups are also produced locally.
- Supporting Mentally Handicapped: Comfort Care™ gift assortments contain components requiring hand assembly and packing. We work with North Key in Carrolton, KY who employs mentally handicapped adults who are seeking meaningful work. North Key employees assemble various pieces of our Deluxe Assortment.
- Giving Back: Comfort Care™ works with Relay for Life, the Lance Armstrong LiveSTRONG Challenge events and with Susan G. Komen events to help promote their causes. We provide tools for fundraising support that can be utilized before, during and after the keynote events. Through cause marketing support related to these events, we also help retailers selling Comfort Care™ products give back to their communities as well.
